Nagrota, Apr 22: In alignment with the global Earth Day theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” Government Degree College (GDC) Nagrota celebrated Earth Day 2025 with enthusiasm and a strong sense of environmental responsibility. The celebration, organized by the college’s Eco Club “Sangrakshak”, focused on raising awareness and encouraging sustainable practices among students. The event began with an oath-taking ceremony, where students pledged to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives, committing themselves to the cause of sustainability. The college further amplified its impact by officially registering the event on www.earthday.org, gaining visibility on a global platform and aligning with worldwide Earth Day initiatives. One of the central activities of the day was a solid waste segregation and plastic waste collection drive. Students actively participated in separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, emphasizing the importance of responsible waste management. The plastic waste collection initiative aimed at reducing pollution while promoting recycling and proper disposal methods. In her address, Principal Prof. Anjali Mahajan highlighted the urgent need to transition towards renewable energy and reduce dependency on fossil fuels. She emphasized the global goal of tripling clean electricity production by 2030, calling on students and staff to support the movement through conscious action and environmental stewardship.
