Indian Army organizes afforestation drive in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Apr 23: To commemorate World Earth Day, the Indian Army at Samote organized an Afforestation Drive aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and raising awareness about ecological conservation. This initiative is part of the Indian Army's ongoing efforts to combat deforestation and enhance the green cover in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The event saw a remarkable show of participation, with 15 service personnel and 20 local residents coming together to contribute to the cause. A total of 18 saplings were planted across the region, including tree species such as Bamboo, Acacia Glauca, and Senegalia Catechu (Khair). These species were selected for their ecological benefits, such as preventing soil erosion, improving air quality, and promoting biodiversity. The Afforestation Drive also aimed at educating the local community about the long-term impact of afforestation and the importance of nurturing the saplings. The initiative received widespread appreciation from the local villagers, who expressed their commitment to adopting and caring for the newly planted trees, ensuring their growth and long-term sustainability. The drive not only created environmental awareness but also reinforced the spirit of collective responsibility toward nature. The effort reflects the Indian Army's dedication to preserving natural resources and building a sustainable future for the upcoming generations. Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, an official present at the event, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in combating climate change and enhancing the region's ecological health. The afforestation initiative exemplifies the Indian Army's continued commitment to environmental conservation and the well-being of local communities. |
