Early Times Report DODA, Apr 26: A two-day Women Empowerment Workshop was successfully conducted at Government Medical College, marking a significant initiative towards fostering confidence, independence and physical well-being among female students pursuing MBBS and DNB courses. The event was organized under the leadership of the Chairperson of the Gender Development Committee and the Students Welfare Committee, with the aim of equipping students with practical self-defense skills, raising awareness about gender-related issues, and encouraging active participation in sports and physical activities to ensure their holistic development. Renowned self-defense expert and gold medalist Komal Dhiman conducted the sessions, offering valuable insights and hands-on training that were met with enthusiastic participation from the students. Faculty members and Committee representatives also actively engaged in the workshop, creating a vibrant and empowering environment. The entire event was meticulously organized and conducted by the women faculty members of the institution, led by Dr. Garima Charak, Head of the Department of Physiology. Their collective efforts ensured the resounding success of the workshop, achieving its objectives of promoting self-awareness, empowerment, and physical fitness among the students. The Gender Development Committee, a unique initiative first created by Dr. Rakesh Bahl in 2022 at GMC Jammu and now at GMC Doda, continues to play a pivotal role in sensitizing students about gender issues, encouraging mutual respect, and fostering decent societal behavior. Its ultimate aim is to prevent incidents of gender harassment within educational institutions and workplaces. |
