Yogi government ensures uninterrupted power supply amid heatwave

LUCKNOW, June 7: Even as temperatures soared across Uttar Pradesh in April and May 2025, the state government-under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-ensured uninterrupted and, in many areas, extended power supply. This proactive approach during one of the harshest summers in recent memory reinforced UP's growing reputation for strong, service-driven governance.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), many districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh recorded temperatures between 40°C and 45°C in April, which was 3 to 5 degrees above normal. In May, mercury crossed 45°C in several places, with Banda registering the highest temperature in the country at 46.2°C on May 16. Heatwave conditions persisted in cities like Prayagraj, Kanpur, Jhansi, and Varanasi. Data from April and May 2025 from all four major DISCOMs-Purvanchal, Madhyanchal, Dakshinanchal, and Paschimanchal-along with KESCO (Kanpur), confirm that power supply was consistently above the scheduled hours across all regions. On average, rural areas received 18.18 hours of electricity per day (against a scheduled 18 hours), tehsil headquarters received 21.32 hours (against 21.30), and district headquarters recorded an average of 23.45 hours of supply-close to the full 24-hour target.
In Purvanchal DISCOM areas, rural regions received 18.20 hours, tehsils 21.31 hours, and districts 23.49 hours of power. In Madhyanchal, the figures were 18.13, 21.38, and 23.51 hours respectively. Dakshinanchal delivered 18.50 hours in rural areas, 21.28 in tehsils, and 23.52 at district level. Paschimanchal supplied 17.51, 21.32, and 23.26 hours respectively. Kanpur, under KESCO, recorded a power supply of 23.26 hours.
Despite one of the harshest summers in recent years, the government ensured robust supply chains and alert response systems. On the Chief Minister's directions, officials of the energy department and DISCOMs conducted regular monitoring and field inspections to ensure smooth electricity distribution. This ensured uninterrupted domestic consumption and agricultural activities in rural areas, bringing much-needed comfort to both farmers and common citizens.
