36 students of MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, have joined the armed forces in the last five years

CHANDIGARH, June 9: MCM DAV College for Women, Sector-36, Chandigarh is the only institute in the region to have an MoU with Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (Mai Bhago AFPI), Mohali, Government of Punjab. Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (Mai Bhago AFPI) for Girls was set up by the Punjab government as an exclusive all-girls training Institute. It is a unique, first of its kind initiative in the country for the young girls. The Institute provides a lifetime golden opportunity to train the girls from Punjab to choose an elite career as a Commissioned Officers in the Defence Services. After graduating from MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, the Lady Cadets are made to appear in various competitive examinations, to seek admission into the Officer Training Academies, based on different Women Entry Schemes for commission into the Defence Services.
In a path breaking initiative, consequent to the decision of the Central Government in 2022, to allow entry of women into the National Defence Academy, the Punjab Government in April 2023, has allowed entry to girls at 10+1 level also into Mai Bhago AFPI, for a two year course, to train them for selection to National Defence Academy at the end of their second year at Mai Bhago AFPI. Besides helping in women empowerment, this decision will also provide more opportunities for women of Punjab, to serve the nation. MCM DAV College for Women is re-accredited grade "A" by NAAC and it is known for its excellence in cultural and sports activities along with the academic quality of the girl students. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, BBA, BCA, BVoc, Mass Communication, Computer Applications, along with more than 50 skill enhancement, multi-disciplinary and value added courses.
This institute is the first such college in the region where international level rock climbing facilities are also available for girl students. The college has won the Punjab University Women's General Efficiency Sports Shield 41 times in its existence of 57 years. In cultural activities also the college has secured top positions in various competitions.
College Principal Mrs. Neena Sharma said that MCM has been working on the all-round development of its students since the beginning. Mrs. Sharma said that the college has released the prospectus for the session 2025-26. Which is available on the college website (https://mcmdavcwchd.edu.in/).
