Unity In Diversity
6/22/2025 11:00:02 PM
While addressing a function to commemorate West Bengal Foundation Day, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized on the fact that unity in diversity is India’s greatest strength and this spirit has empowered everyone to fulfil the dream of our forefathers.
India’s greatest strength lies in its rich diversity — of languages, religions, cultures, and philosophies — and its ability to stay united through shared values and democratic ideals.
In a country as varied as ours, this harmony is not accidental but a result of deliberate efforts by our forefathers, freedom fighters, and visionaries who laid the foundation of modern India on the principles of inclusivity, pluralism, and cooperation.
LG Sinha’s tributes to the legendary freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and intellectuals from West Bengal — a state that has been at the forefront of India’s intellectual, cultural, and nationalist movements — serve as a reminder of the role Bengal has played in shaping India’s destiny.
From the spiritual teachings of Swami Vivekananda to the fearless resistance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, from the literary brilliance of Rabindranath Tagore to the political foresight of Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, Bengal has gifted the nation a legacy of courage, wisdom, and progress.
The Lieutenant Governor’s call to youth to work collectively towards building a progressive and united society is both timely and necessary. In an era often marred by division, polarization, and misinformation, the youth must rise above narrow identities and petty differences. They must embrace the inclusive ethos of the Constitution and contribute towards building an India where every citizen — irrespective of region, religion, or social background — has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
The nation today stands at a transformative juncture. We are witnessing rapid economic growth, technological advancement, and global recognition. However, this progress will remain incomplete if social unity and cultural harmony are not safeguarded. It is the responsibility of the younger generation to protect the foundational values of liberty, equality, and fraternity, and to ensure that diversity remains a source of strength, not division.
LG Sinha’s message is not just a tribute to the past but a roadmap for the future. It calls upon us to uphold the ideals that inspired the independence movement and continue to define the Indian republic. West Bengal Foundation Day is not only a moment to celebrate a state’s identity, but also an occasion to reflect on the broader Indian identity — one that is resilient, inclusive, and ever-evolving.
Let this commemoration be a reminder that the dream of a united, modern India is still a work in progress — and it is upon the youth to carry forward that legacy with pride, purpose, and responsibility.
