Desh Bhagat University hosts commemorative event on "Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh and Indian Nationalism"

MANDI GOBINDARH, Sept 27: Desh Bhagat University, Faculty of Social Sciences and languages and the Centre for South Asian Studies organized a special event on "Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh and Indian Nationalism" to commemorate the 118th birth anniversary of the great revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh .
The programme was graced by Professor S. K. Gakhar, Vice Chairperson, Haryana State Higher Education Council, as the Chief Guest. He was ceremonially welcomed and joined by Hon'ble Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Vice Chancellor Dr. Harsh Sadawarti, and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Amarjit Singh (Academics) in paying floral tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Respected S. Lal Singh Ji, father of the Chancellor Dr Zora Singh.
The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony and Dr. Ram Singh Gurna, Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages delivered the welcome address.
In his address, Prof. Amarjit Singh highlighted Bhagat Singh's intellectual depth and commitment to humanity beyond caste, class, and colour.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. S. K. Gakhar urged the youth to reinterpret patriotism in the modern context. He stated, "Today patriotism means making our nation self-reliant, technology-oriented, and progressive. The younger generation must carry forward Shaheed Bhagat Singh's ideals by contributing to India's transformation into a developed nation."
The ceremony also included felicitations, followed by a vote of thanks by Dr. Dharminder Singh.
