10/18/2025 9:30:41 PM
CHANDIGARH, Oct 18: Promoting the spirit of eco-conscious festivities, Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, under the initiative of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), organised an Awareness Programme on Green Diwali and Book Donation Drive at Government Primary School, Village Buterla. An interactive talk on 'Green Diwali, Clean Diwali' highlighted the environmental hazards of firecrackers and advocated sustainable festive practices. Students enjoyed an animated video on Green Diwali, followed by a quiz competition and a drawing activity that encouraged them to creatively depict the theme. The UBA team also donated books to promote the joy of reading among children.
In another initiative, under the directions of the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, the Eco-Club 'Parivesh' and NSS Units, under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch, organised an Anti-Cracker Campaign, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration. The event began with an oath-taking ceremony wherein Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma, faculty members, and NSS volunteers, pledged to celebrate a cracker-free Diwali. Creative competitions including Rangoli Making and Poster Making on the theme 'Anti-Cracker and Green Diwali' witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students showcasing their artistry and environmental awareness through innovative designs and impactful messages. An Anti-Cracker Rally further amplified the message as volunteers held placards and raised slogans urging citizens to celebrate responsibly. NSS volunteers also sensitised the college community about the harmful effects of firecrackers on health and the environment.
