Another Debacle
11/16/2025 10:44:06 PM
Poor performance of the Congress in Bihar assembly elections has once again reminded the party activists and leaders in Jammu and Kashmir about the party’s debacle in 2024 polls in the Union Territory.
According to the media reports after the Congress suffered a humiliating defeat in Bihar, voices are becoming shrill in J&K for the immediate release of the long-pending fact-finding report on the party’s poor performance in the assembly elections in the Union Territory.
The report was prepared to identify the factors that led to the party’s defeat across the Jammu region and suggest steps for organisational strengthening. However, the report didn’t see the light of the day as it could have opened the “Pandora’s Box.”
The Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir has remained in news for infighting and factionalism. It has lost its foothold in Jammu region, which was once considered its bastion.
After the loss in Bihar, the Congress Party is under tremendous pressure and frustration seems to ascend with each electoral defeat.
It has become amply clear that Congress cannot win any election under Rahul Gandhi. He can continue with his “experiments with truth” but the nation cannot wait for a viable Opposition to emerge, which is essential for any functioning democracy.
The Bihar elections have shown that the present “Gandhi-Congress” is going to be a dead weight in any alliance. The grand old party has failed to make any impact on the ground zero and it no longer attracts the voters. It seems that the electorate don’t take Rahul and his party seriously anymore.
The humiliating loss in J&K last year and now in Bihar has put a big question mark on the performance of Congress leaders.
After losing power in Jammu and Kashmir in 2014, the Congress leaders have always remained in news for the wrong reasons. Despite sharing power for 12 consecutive years i.e. from 2002 to 2014 first with the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and then with the National Conference (NC) the Congress leaders have not been able to make their presence felt on the ground during the past one decade.
Whether the fact finding report that dwelled upon the reasons for the Congress’s debacle in 2024 assembly polls in J&K should be made public or not is a matter of debate. The important issue for the party at present is to regain its ground as it has lost all its citadels in Jammu and Kashmir.
