One day Capacity Building Workshop on Disaster Managment

Jammu, Dec 24: A One day capacity building workshop on “Disaster Management was organized on 24th of December 2025 in the conference hall of the College to enhance disaster awareness, preparedness and response skills among students and volunteers.
The programme was meticulously planned and executed by the NSS Units and Disaster Management Cell of Govt. Degree College Udhampur under the leadership of Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Principal of the College.
The event began with lighting of lamp followed by NSS song by NSS Volunteers. The guests were formally welcomed by Dr. Jagjeet Singh, Convener of the Disaster Management Cell. He made a small insight into the objectives of the workshop and the importance of disaster preparedness in today’s context. A detailed briefing of the workshop schedule and its key components were explained by Dr. Gurpreet Kour, NSS Programme Officer. She outlined the detail of the sessions, expected outcomes and encouraged active participation from all the attendees. The Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma, Worthy Principal of the College, addressed the participants, emphasizing the role of youth in building community responsibilities and the significant of the disaster management education.
He laid the stress that the students must be ready for any eventuality either natural or manmade.
The first technical and practical session was conducted by Sh. Swantantra Dev Kotwal, Dy. Chief Warden, SDRF Udhampur, who has vast field experience and expertise in handling real life disaster situations. He shared insights on disaster response strategies, safety protocol and real life scenarios to better equip volunteers with practical knowledge.
The second technical session was conducted by Sh. Karanvir Singh, Instructor from SDRF Udhampur. He educated and empowered the volunteers and students on disaster management, techniques, risk mitigation practices and community support mechanisms, fostering a culture of preparedness and proactive response within the campus and beyond.
The overall coordination and proceedings of the workshop was managed by Prof. Tania Akhtar and Dr. Waquar Ahmed, members’ disaster management cell, ensuring smooth flow of sessions and engagement throughout the day. The event was coordinated by Prof. Kaku Ram, NSS Programme Officer and Prof. Rahul Sharma, member disaster management cell.
The programme ended with the formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Asha Sohil, member disaster management cell, she expressed gratitude to Chief Guest, Resource Persons, organizing faculty member and participant for making the workshop a success. Certificates distribution ceremony took place on the conclusion of the Workshop. Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Prof. Naveen Kumar and Dr. Heena Khajuria were also the part of organizing team.
