JAMMU, Dec 26: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today attended the inaugural ceremony of the Big Jammu & Kashmir Premier League (JKPL) in Jammu.
The Minister reiterated present dispensation's commitment towards promoting sports culture and building robust sports infrastructure across the Union Territory.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that the present government is placing special emphasis on development of sports infrastructure and promotion of sporting activities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that platforms like JKPL are playing a vital role in identifying talent, nurturing young players and providing them competitive exposure, thereby helping channelize youthful energy in a positive and productive direction.
Satish Sharma said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Jammu and Kashmir is steadily emerging as a hub of sports excellence, with focused investments being made in stadiums, training facilities and grassroots-level sporting initiatives.
Later, the Minister conducted surprise visit to the Transport Commissioner's Office and office of the Managing Director, J&K Road Transport Corporation (RTC), Jammu, to take stock of functioning of the departments.
During the inspection, he reviewed the staff attendance, punctuality and overall work culture. He interacted with the officers and employees regarding the delivery of public services.
The Minister also visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Jammu, where he reviewed the public service delivery, availability of facilities and the pace of ongoing works. He directed the officials to ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience and their all genuine grievances are addressed in a time-bound and transparent manner.
Satish Sharma also visited the office of Science and Technology, Jammu, where he reviewed the ongoing projects and implementation of technology-driven initiatives. He stressed upon greater use of innovation, digitization and scientific solutions to improve the governance, service delivery and youth engagement in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister said that the focus of the government remains on making all its departments more efficient, accountable and people-friendly, while simultaneously strengthening sports, youth empowerment and science and technology as key drivers of Jammu and Kashmir's development.
