Day 6 of NSS Special Winter Camp 2025 at GDC Kakryal, Katra

JAMMU, Dec 29: The sixth day of the NSS Special Winter Camp 2025 at Government Degree College, Kakryal, Katra, was observed on 29 December 2025 with a series of academically rigorous and socially oriented activities. The programme was organized under the able guidance of the worthy Principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, reaffirming the institution's commitment to experiential learning, community engagement, and research-oriented education. The day commenced with a solemn morning assembly, setting a disciplined and reflective tone for the proceedings. This was followed by an academic lecture delivered by Dr. Usha Sharma, NSS Programme Officer, who addressed the volunteers on the fundamentals of interview-based research. The lecture provided a structured understanding of research methodology, focusing on the formulation of objectives, the relevance of qualitative inquiry, and the ethical and practical dimensions of conducting interviews in field-based studies. The emphasis was laid on transforming grassroots data into meaningful academic and policy-relevant insights. Subsequently, around 40 volunteers undertook a field survey in the adopted village of Dadura, Block Panthal, Katra, employing the interview method as part of a research exercise titled "A Study on the Literacy Rate and Educational Challenges of Village Dadura, Block Panthal, Katra". The activity enabled volunteers to engage directly with the community, collect primary data, and critically examine the structural and socio-economic factors influencing literacy and educational access at the village level. This enhanced their research aptitude as well as deepened their sensitivity towards local developmental challenges. The day further witnessed a plantation drive at the new campus of the college at Kakryal, led by Dr. Rajni Bhagat, Principal of the college, along with Dr. Usha Sharma, NSS Programme Officer and volunteers. The initiative symbolized the integration of environmental responsibility with institutional growth, reinforcing the message of sustainable development through collective action. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Usha Sharma, NSS Programme Officer, who ensured the smooth and systematic conduct of all activities throughout the day. The sixth day of the camp concluded on a purposeful note, encapsulating the spirit of the NSS motto "Not Me But You." Through the convergence of academic inquiry, community interaction, and ecological consciousness, the programme underscored the role of youth as informed, responsible, and socially responsive citizens.
