Heightened Vigil
12/29/2025 10:41:13 PM
As the New Year is coming closer, security forces have increased the vigil and intensified checks across Jammu and Kashmir.
The number pilgrims visiting Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine ahead of 2026 has increased manifolds, and the number of tourist arrivals has also increased.
Prediction of snowfall on the New Year has also led to increase in arrival of tourists at winter destinations. The surge in the number of pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine ahead of 2026 reflects renewed confidence in the region’s stability and the effectiveness of security and civic arrangements.
For millions of devotees, the shrine symbolizes faith and hope, and the steady flow of pilgrims during this period underscores Jammu and Kashmir’s re-emergence as a safe destination for religious tourism.
While this influx brings economic benefits to local communities—hoteliers, transporters, artisans and small traders—it also presents significant security and logistical challenges.
Large gatherings, crowded transit routes and festive exuberance can be exploited by disruptive elements if vigilance is relaxed even momentarily. It is in this context that the heightened alertness of security forces assumes critical importance.
Amid celebrations and festivities, security forces are on high alert. Checking has been intensified and strict watch is being maintained across the Union Territory to ensure that the New Year passes off peacefully. Additional deployments, round-the-clock surveillance and coordinated patrolling are aimed at deterring any attempt to disturb public order. These measures, though occasionally causing minor inconvenience, are a necessary safeguard to protect lives and maintain the atmosphere of peace that people now increasingly associate with Jammu and Kashmir.
The role of security forces during this festive season goes beyond enforcement. Their visible presence instils confidence among visitors and residents alike, reinforcing the message that the state is prepared and proactive. Equally important is the cooperation of citizens, pilgrims and tourists. Responsible behaviour, adherence to advisories and timely sharing of information can greatly enhance the effectiveness of security arrangements.
As celebrations and festivities unfold, it is essential to remember that peace is not accidental; it is the outcome of sustained effort, discipline and collective responsibility. The improved security scenario in recent years has opened new avenues for tourism and pilgrimage, but preserving these gains requires constant alertness.
