Essay writing competetion at GDC Vijaypur on World AIDS Day

Vijaypur, Dec 30 The Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Vijaypur, today organized a mega Essay Writing Competition to observe World AIDS Day. The event was held under the esteemed supervision of the Principal, Dr. Ashu Vashisht, and centered on the global theme for 2025: "Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response."
The competition aimed to sensitize the student community about the ongoing challenges in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the importance of resilient healthcare systems. Students from various departments participated enthusiastically, articulating their thoughts on how society can bridge the gaps caused by global disruptions to ensure no one is left behind in the journey toward ending the epidemic.
The event was spearheaded by Dr. Ashu Vashisht (Principal) and coordinated by Dr. Arti Sharma (Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club). Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht, in her address, emphasized that the youth are the most powerful ambassadors for social change. She highlighted the need for empathy and the removal of the social stigma that often hinders the AIDS response.
Dr. Arti Sharma briefed the students on the significance of the Red Ribbon Club's role in colleges and the importance of "transforming" the response through digital health, community leadership, and sustained awareness.
The event witnessed a strong presence of faculty members including Prof. Anita Jamwal (Head, Department of Political Science), Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat, (Head, Department of Sociology), Dr. Manoj Kumar (Head, Department of Dogri), Dr. Naseem Choudhary (Head, Department of English), Prof. Meetu Sharma (Head, Department of Geography), Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Prof. Sonia Devi, Dr. Anoop Singh And Prof. Manisha. The participants demonstrated a deep understanding of the theme, proposing innovative ways to rebuild and strengthen AIDS prevention and care strategies in a post-disruption world.
In the competetion, Shravan Mathur secured first position, Ruhi secured second position whereas third position was shared by Tanish Dhotra and Bani Panday of Semester I.
The winners of the essay competition were formally recognized and awarded certificates of merit. Following the competition, refreshments were distributed among all the participating students and volunteers.
