CUJ organise open selection trials for Women Cricket Team

Jammu, Nov 30: The Cluster University of Jammu organised Open Selection Trials for the Women Cricket Team to select players for participation in the forthcoming North Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament, scheduled to be held at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, in January 2026. The trials were conducted at Government College for GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from aspiring women cricketers representing various constituent colleges of the university.
Prof. D.S. Manhas, Dean Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was formally welcomed with a bouquet presented by Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Director, Physical Education & Sports, CLUJ. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Manhas appreciated the efforts of the Sports Department for promoting women’s participation in sports and emphasized that such platforms help in nurturing talent, building confidence, and fostering a spirit of teamwork and discipline among students. He assured full support from the university administration for the overall development of sports activities.
Dr. Vinod Bakshi, in his remarks, highlighted the university’s commitment to strengthening the sports culture and providing adequate opportunities to student athletes. He stated that the selection trials were conducted in a fair and transparent manner to identify the best possible talent that can bring laurels to the university at the zonal level. He also encouraged the selected players to train with dedication and maintain high standards of fitness and discipline during the coaching camp.
Prof. Sharadha Anand, Convener Sports Committee, GCW Gandhi Nagar also welcomed the Dean Students Welfare, Director Physical Education & Sports and the Selection Committee.
The selection process was carried out by a panel of experienced selectors, including Dr. Roopali Slathia, Physical Director, GDC R.S. Pura; Ms. Kajal Premi, Physical Director, GCW Gandhi Nagar; and Mr. Ramandeep Karalia, Physical Director, GCOE. Based on their performance during the trials, selected students namely Neemami Slathia, Reetika Sharam, Preetika Sharma, Kangna Manchanda, Suhanni Puri, Radhika Sharma, Mandeeep Kour, Saba Khatoon, Simran Charak, Kiran Katoch, Deepshikha Sharma, Akriti Sharma, Akshara Rajput, Charu Bhagat (Stand by), Bindu Salgotra (Stand by) will now attend a coaching camp in preparation for the North Zone Inter-University Tournament.
