Gupta calls for operationalisation of Tehsil Bhomag to end locals’ long travel Ordeal
12/30/2025 6:55:04 PM

early times report

Jammu, Dec 30: The Provincial President Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta, today sought the immediate functioning of the Tehsil office Bhomag from Bhomag itself instead of operating from Reasi, stating that the move is essential to provide long-pending relief to the local population.
Addressing the issue, he said that the Tehsil Bhomag was sanctioned during the previous Omar Abdullah-led government with the clear objective of strengthening grassroots administration and easing public access to revenue and other essential services. However, he regretted that successive governments after that period pushed the matter into cold storage, forcing the residents of Bhomag and adjoining villages to travel long distances to Reasi even for minor administrative and revenue-related issues.
Gupta urged the District Administration Reasi to immediately establish and operationalise the Tehsil office at Bhomag so that the very purpose of creating the tehsil is fulfilled. “It defeats the logic of a tehsil if people from Bhomag are compelled to travel all the way to Reasi for routine work.
He added that the delay in operationalising the Tehsil Bhomag is one among several development initiatives that were sanctioned for the Jammu region during the Omar Abdullah-led government but were subsequently pushed to the back burner by the BJP-PDP regimes and during the long phase of undemocratic rule. Gupta said that with the return of an elected government under Omar Abdullah, a new lease of life has been given to far-flung and neglected areas of Jammu, which are now receiving equal development and administrative attention.
He expressed confidence that many projects stalled over the years are now back on track and will soon be completed and dedicated to the public. “Jammu is once again on the development radar of the elected government.
