Jammu Police Tighten noose on Khair Wood Smugglers using Camels in Gharota Area

Jammu, Dec 30: Continuing its sustained crackdown against illegal timber smuggling, Jammu (Rural) Police, in coordination with officials of the Forest Department, achieved a significant success by intercepting camels being used for the illegal transportation of Khair wood in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota.
Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of Khair wood using camels, a joint team of Police Station Gharota and the Forest Department conducted a checking operation during the intervening night of December 28/29, 2025,at Sarote village, Gharota.
During the operation, two camels were intercepted and found loaded with Khair wood weighing approximately 10–15 quintals, which was being illegally transported for commercial gain.
After completing all legal formalities, the seized Khair wood and the camels have been taken into custody.
A report has been entered at Police Station Gharota, and the seized property will be handed over to the Forest Department for further action under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
