Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Jan 2: Minister of State for Sports, Sh. Gaurav Gautam said that the Sports University, Rai (Sonipat) will be developed at a cost of Rs. 491 crore. He said the university will not be merely a centre of education, but a laboratory for preparing future Olympians and international-level players. The university will provide world-class facilities for sports grounds, training, accommodation, and nutrition in line with international standards.
The Sports Minister was chairing a review meeting today at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, with officers of the Sports Department, Sports University, Rai (Sonipat), and the Public Works Department (PWD). During the meeting, discussions were also held on finalising the drawings and designs of modern sports infrastructure.
Gaurav Gautam said that the main objective of the state government is to provide excellent and modern facilities to players. With this vision, the Haryana Government has released Rs.114 crore through the Sports Department for the repair and rejuvenation of sports stadiums across the state. Work has already started at several locations. He informed that additional resources will be spent by the District Sports Council (DSC) to further improve the grading of the sports fields, and a detailed plan is being prepared for this.
The Sports Minister directed that officers at the Deputy Director level must conduct surprise inspections of stadiums in their respective districts at least twice a month. Any shortcomings noticed during inspections will be addressed in a time-bound manner, and accountability of the concerned officers will also be fixed. He said that regular monitoring of sports infrastructure is essential to bring real improvement at the grassroots level.
He said that additional funds for sports will be provided in the upcoming budget so that players from the state can win more medals in national and international competitions and bring glory to the country and state.
The Minister said that daughters of the state are consistently delivering outstanding performances at national and international levels. Sports nurseries play a vital role in improving the performance level of players, and keeping this in mind, the Sports Department is continuously working to provide better facilities in sports nurseries.
