Early Times Report
KERI, Jan 2: A significant milestone in strengthening grassroots communication and community engagement was achieved with the formal inauguration of the Community Radio Station "Radio Sangam" (88.8 FM - Har Pal Har Dil) at village Keri in Rajouri district.
The Community Radio Station was inaugurated by Mr. Abhishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Mr. Rajesh Verma, Chief Agricultural Officer, school and community radio station staff, ex-servicemen and representatives of local village authorities. The ceremony commenced with a ribbon-cutting, followed by a detailed technical briefing by the Station Manager outlining the broadcasting infrastructure, transmission range and operational capabilities of the station.
During his address, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the vital role of community radio in strengthening grassroots communication, preserving local culture and promoting inclusive development. He described Radio Sangam as an important community-driven initiative that would serve as a credible and accessible platform for sharing information, amplifying local voices and fostering greater public awareness in remote and rural areas.
An inaugural podcast was also recorded, during which the Deputy Commissioner underscored the station's importance in addressing local issues, disseminating authentic information and bridging information gaps in the Keri sector. He emphasised that the station would function as a people-centric medium, reflecting the aspirations, traditions and everyday lives of the local population.
Radio Sangam (88.8 FM) will broadcast programmes in local languages and dialects, with a focus on education, health awareness, women and youth empowerment, government welfare schemes, agriculture, livelihood opportunities and disaster preparedness. Special emphasis will be placed on interactive programmes, community discussions, local music and folk traditions to encourage active participation and dialogue.
The Deputy Commissioner lauded the initiative for empowering citizens in remote areas to remain informed, connected and engaged and expressed confidence that Radio Sangam would serve as a vital bridge between the administration and the people. Community members, educators, youth representatives and local stakeholders present at the event expressed optimism regarding the station's role in promoting unity, awareness and positive social change.
The inaugural event concluded with a media interaction, marking the successful launch of Radio Sangam, aimed at strengthening outreach, enhancing information dissemination and reinforcing the spirit of inclusive development and community participation.
