Early Times Report
JALANDHAR, Jan 9: In a momentous celebration marking academic excellence, global outlook, Lovely Professional University (LPU) organised its 12th Convocation Ceremony on January 9, 2026. The prestigious ceremony was chaired by the C. P. Radhakrishnan, Hon'ble Vice-President of India, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The convocation was presided over by the Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh.
Adding exceptional global stature to the occasion, Rt Hon. Mary Elizabeth Truss, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, was conferred with the Degree of Doctorate Honoris Causa, recognising her leadership, public service, and contributions to global political discourse.
In the convocation address, the Hon'ble Vice-President of India congratulated the graduating students on reaching an important milestone, describing convocation as a moment of fulfilment that simultaneously renews responsibility-not only for graduates, but also for parents, faculty members, and institutions that shape young minds. The Hon'ble Vice-President appreciated LPU's initiatives promoting self-reliance through the adoption of Made-in-India products on campus, along with the university's support for armed forces families through the Jai Jawan Scholarship. These initiatives were highlighted as reflections of how universities function not merely as centres of learning, but as institutions that contribute to shaping national character.
The Vice-President further urged graduates to carry forward the values of integrity, diversity, compassion, and service, emphasising that "Living for yourself is not wrong, but living only for yourself is. We must give back to society". Expressing concern over the growing challenge of drug abuse on campuses, the Hon'ble Vice-President appealed to students not only to reject drugs themselves, but also to actively prevent peers from falling into this trap, describing such vigilance as a meaningful contribution to society.
As the Presiding Officer, the Hon'ble Governor of Punjab congratulated the graduating students and reminded them that education extends far beyond academic attainment to the formation of character, values, and civic responsibility. The Hon'ble Governor urged graduates to uphold integrity, discipline, and ethical grounding in every sphere of life. Speaking on India's aspiration to emerge as a global leader by 2047, the Hon'ble Governor stated that this national vision rests on the capability, integrity, and social commitment of the youth. Graduates were encouraged to look beyond individual success, value time as a national asset, and contribute constructively to the nation's progress.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, expressed shared delight in hosting the Hon'ble Vice-President of India along with eminent national and international dignitaries at the convocation.
