| ‘Swabhasha and Swadeshi’ | | | Reiterating the importance of encouraging ‘Swabhasha’ and ‘Swadeshi’ Union Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing a global convention urged people to make and use local products and converse in their mother tongue at home. Shah stated that language is a key to preserving any society, culture and religion. While any language can be learnt or spoken as required to progress in the world, only Hindi and local languages must be used for conversation with children at home, as it will help strengthen their connection with their roots. India’s unity lies in its diversity. People in different regions speak in their own mother tongue and it changes from one area to another. It’s important for the parents and elders to ensure that their children speak their mother tongue fluently. Talking in your own language with the children at home connects them with the history. It is the language only which keeps the society alive, religion alive and takes the culture forward. Civilisations thrive when their languages thrive; they weaken when linguistic roots are neglected. India’s civilisational continuity—despite centuries of invasions, colonial rule and cultural disruptions—has largely survived because its people remained anchored to their languages and traditions at the grassroots level. Foreign languages are important but these need to be used for communication at the places where there is a necessity. For every Indian Hindi is a universal language which needs to be spoken in every region. India’s unity does not stem from uniformity but from diversity. From Kashmiri to Tamil, Assamese to Marathi, Gujarati to Telugu, every region expresses its identity through its mother tongue. This linguistic diversity has never fragmented India; instead, it has enriched the national fabric. Swadeshi is an important mantra to attain the goal in order to make India a leading nation in every field by 2047. The call for Swadeshi resonates strongly in the economic sphere. Using local products strengthens domestic industries, empowers artisans, generates employment and reduces dependence on imports. Swadeshi is not an outdated slogan but a modern strategy for sustainable growth, resilient supply chains and inclusive development. When citizens choose Indian-made goods, they actively participate in nation-building. By promoting Swadeshi and Swabhasha, Amit Shah has highlighted a balanced path—one that embraces global engagement while remaining deeply rooted in indigenous identity. |
