| BJP leader says scheme has no communal angle, aims to boost rural jobs and livelihoods | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 12: BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan on Monday accused the Congress of deliberately misleading people by attempting to communalise the nomenclature of the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), popularly known as VB-G RAM G. In a statement issued here, Rattan said the Congress was indulging in its habitual politics of misinformation and distortion by opposing a people-centric initiative simply because it has been conceptualised by a non-Congress government. He remarked that any welfare scheme becomes unacceptable to the Congress if it does not carry its political label, calling such an approach harmful to democracy, institutional credibility and principles of good governance. Strongly condemning the attempt to give a communal twist to the scheme's name, Rattan clarified that VB-G RAM G has absolutely no religious or sectarian connotation. He said the acronym clearly stands for Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) and accused the Congress of manufacturing non-issues, spreading suspicion and misleading the public for narrow political gains. Explaining the vision behind the mission, the BJP leader said it has been designed to replace MGNREGA with a more modern, robust and future-oriented framework for rural employment. He added that the initiative aligns with India's long-term objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and focuses on strengthening rural livelihoods and economic self-reliance at the grassroots level. Balbir Ram Rattan further said the mission provides a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment per financial year to eligible rural households, an increase from the current 100 days under MGNREGA. He stated that this enhancement reflects the government's commitment to addressing rural distress, reducing seasonal migration and expanding sustainable employment opportunities in villages. He also highlighted that the framework aims to integrate technology, transparency and accountability to ensure efficient implementation and timely wage payments. According to him, community assets created under the mission would contribute to long-term rural infrastructure and productivity. He asserted that instead of spreading confusion and fear, the Congress should support reforms that benefit rural India. |
