| Workshop organised to enhance understanding of MCU & NAFIS among officers,IO's of Police | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 12: A one-day workshop on the functioning of Measurement Collection Units (MCU) and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for Police officers,officials of District Police Jammu was organised today (12.01.2026) at the District Training Centre (DTC), DPL Jammu. A total of 44 officers participated in the capacity-building programme. The workshop was formally addressed by SSP FPB Sh. Mohd Yousif, JKPS, who highlighted the importance of scientific investigation and effective use of modern forensic tools in strengthening criminal investigations. He emphasized the need for accuracy, standardization, and timely integration of forensic inputs at the operational level. Expert lectures were delivered by DySP Jagpal Sharma and Inspector Gurnam Choudhary of the FPB Crime Branch. The technical sessions were coordinated by Inspector Farooq Ahmad Rather, Fingerprint Proficient, FPB, who ensured structured delivery of the training modules. The lectures focused on fingerprint science and its critical role in NAFIS-based identification, covering procedures for development, lifting, digitization, and uploading of fingerprints. Emphasis was laid on maintaining quality standards to ensure precise matching and seamless integration with the NAFIS platform. Practical demonstrations and technical explanations were provided to familiarize participants with best practices and recent advancements. An interactive discussion session followed, during which participants raised operational issues encountered during field and laboratory work. The workshop proved beneficial in enhancing professional competence and strengthening the implementation of MCU and NAFIS at the ground level, reflecting FPB's continued commitment to capacity building and modernization of forensic and investigative processes. |
