| SBSP demands National Law Universities in both J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 14: The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) has demanded the establishment of National Law Universities in both Kashmir and Jammu, asserting that such institutions should serve the entire Union Territory in a balanced and inclusive manner. In a statement issued here, SBSP State President Vivek Bali said that higher education institutions of national importance must be developed in both regions to ensure equal access for students. He criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s remarks on the proposed Law University, stating that a National Law University should not be limited to one region alone.
Drawing a comparison with AIIMS, Bali said that just as premier medical institutions are set up to cater to broader regional needs, a National Law University should also follow the same principle. “A Law University is meant for the whole of Jammu and Kashmir. Establishing it in only one region defeats the idea of balanced development,” he said. Vivek Bali further stressed that youth from both Jammu and Kashmir deserve equal opportunities in legal education without being compelled to travel long distances. He urged the government to adopt a fair and regionally inclusive approach while planning major educational institutions. The SBSP appealed to the administration to reconsider its stand and take concrete steps towards establishing National Law Universities in both Jammu and Kashmir, saying this would strengthen the legal education framework and promote unity and equitable growth across the Union Territory. |
