CUJ celebrates festival of Makar Sankranti with great fervour

Jammu, Jan 14: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain today celebrated the festival of Makar Sankranti with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour. The event began with a warm welcome address by the Head of the Department, Prof. Asit K. Mantry who highlighted the cultural significance of Makar Sankranti and emphasized the importance of preserving traditional heritage among students.This was followed by captivating group folk song performances. A total of ten student teams participated, showcasing rich folk traditions and patriotic spirit filling the atmosphere with energy and joy. The performances were judged by Prof. Nancy Mengi (Head, Department of Social Work) and Dr. Narinder Kumar (Faculty, Department of Computer Science and Electronics), who appreciated the collective spirit of the participants. The students of team Saraswati from B.A. B. Ed second semester, team Maharishi Dayanand from B.A. B.Ed. Sixth semester and team Maharaja Harisingh comprising research scholars bagged first, second and third prizes respectively.
After the performances, refreshments were distributed among the students. The event was graced by the presence of the distinguished faculty members Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar and Prof. Ritu Bakshi Dean Students’ Welfare. The department on the collective occasion of MakarSankranti and YuvaSaptah organised an inter-semester skit competition.
The theme of the skit competition was harmony or “samarasta” and all the performances stressed on the value of unity in diversity.
The event was judged by Dr. Ravi Vanguri and Dr. Mohan Galgotra .The event was concluded by distribution of Khichdi as refreshments to the students and staff.
