Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Jan 17: To mark Global Interventional Radiology (IR) Day, a vibrant and informative street play (Nukkad Natak) was organized by department of radiodiagnosis under aegis of ISVIR, Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh State Branch at sector 17, Chandigarh to create public awareness about the role of Interventional Radiology in modern healthcare. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Harish Bhujade, Secretary ISVIR state branch and Associate professor PGI said, The Global IR Day on January 16 is being celebrated on the occasion of the anniversary of world first angioplasty by Dr. Charles Dotter. Global IR day is an opportunity to bring this life-saving specialty closer to the public. Prof Ajay Kumar, President ISVIR state branch and Professor PGI told that the street play creatively highlighted how Interventional Radiology offers minimally invasive, image-guided treatments for a wide range of medical conditions, including cancer care, vascular diseases, trauma management, women's health issues, and emergency interventions. Prof Paramjeet Singh, Head, Department of Radiodiagnosis said that through this street play, we aimed to communicate that many complex conditions can now be treated safely without major surgery.Global Interventional Radiology Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contributions of interventional radiologists and to promote awareness of this rapidly evolving medical specialty. The event attracted significant attention from passersby, students, and local residents, who actively engaged with the performers and healthcare professionals present at the venue. Informational sessions following the play helped address public queries and dispel myths about interventional procedures Faculties from Radiology, PGI, Dr Anuj , Dr Nidhi, Dr Tarvinder, Abhinandan and Dr Mansi had also participated in the event. The event concluded with a strong message EMPHASIZING early diagnosis, timely intervention, and the importance of minimally invasive treatment options in improving patient outcomes. |
