Early Times Report
JALANDHAR, Jan 19: The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at Lovely Professional University (LPU) organized an insightful Masterclass titled "From Chaos to Clarity: Mastering Library Classification and Cataloguing Skills" recently at the LPU Campus. The session served as a valuable academic enrichment opportunity for aspiring learners enrolled in Distance Mode Programmes, offering both conceptual depth and practical exposure to essential Library and Information Science competencies.
The Masterclass was led by Dr. Balvant Tandel and Dr. Priya Vaidya, Assistant Professors at Lovely Professional University, who delivered comprehensive training on core library classification and cataloguing frameworks. Participants gained practical skills in understanding the principles of library organization and in applying the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), Colon Classification (CC), Classified Catalogue Code (CCC), and Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition (AACR 2). These skills enabled them to prepare accurate and standardized catalogue entries, assign appropriate subject headings and keywords, effectively use cataloguing tools and digital library software, enhance the accessibility and usability of library collections, and systematically organize information resources in both physical and digital environments.
Learners from various locations across Punjab participated with exceptional enthusiasm, reflecting their strong commitment to enhancing their professional capabilities. The Masterclass concluded on an engaging and impactful note, equipping participants with systematic, structured, and efficient approaches to managing information resources. The session not only strengthened conceptual clarity but also empowered learners to confidently bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world practice.
LPU continues to reinforce its position as a top-tier institution, backed by prestigious accreditations and rankings, including NAAC A++ with a score of 3.68, and recognition by the UGC with the highest First Category 1 Graded Autonomy status. It holds the 31st rank in NIRF 2025 and is ranked 5th among India's top universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 (501-600 globally). In addition, LPU is ranked 17th in India in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
LPU's UGC-recognized/entitled Distance Education and UGC-entitled Online Programmes stand out for their quality learning, flexible approach and dedicated student support. Furthermore, LPU Distance and Online Programmes are also recognized globally by World Education Services (WES).
