Awareness programme held

JAMMU, Jan 21: A three-day awareness programme titled "Awareness among Educators for Enhancing Teaching Excellence through National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST)" was successfully conducted from 19th to 21st January 2026 at Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS) Nowabad, Jammu.
The programme was formally inaugurated by R. G. Dogra, Principal, DIET Jammu, in the august presence of Sarabjit Kour, Head of Department, DIET Jammu, Vice Principal, BHSS Nawabad, Jammu, and other dignitaries. The training programme was coordinated by Anil Gupta, Senior Lecturer, DIET Jammu, who also served as the Training Coordinator. Suniya Mehta, Lecturer, and Ankit Mahajan (JSS) provided academic and technical support, respectively. While inaugurating the programme, the Principal, DIET Jammu, highlighted the significance of NPST in improving the quality of teaching and learning and emphasized the need for continuous professional development of teachers in alignment with NEP 2020. Sarabjeet Kour, HOD, DIET Jammu, addressed the participants and underscored the role of professional standards in fostering accountability, reflective practices, and excellence in teaching. The keynote address was presented by the Training Coordinator, Anil Gupta, who elaborated on the vision, objectives, and framework of NPST. The first technical session of the programme was also conducted by the Co-ordinator, focusing on the overview and practical understanding of NPST. Dr. Jyoti Sudan, SAO, SCERT J&K, served as Resource Person and delivered an in-depth session on the Domains of NPST, providing clarity on knowledge, practice, and professional values essential for effective teaching.
The second day of the programme commenced with a feedback session from participants, reflecting their learning experiences. Thereafter, Shifali Gupta, Senior Lecturer, HSS Marh Dansal, Resource Person, delivered a comprehensive presentation on linking NPST with NEP 2020, NCF-SE, and the Foundational
Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Mission. This was followed by a session conducted by the Co-ordinator on using NPST for teacher appraisal and accountability, highlighting its relevance for transparent and fair evaluation systems.
