Guru Nanak Dev University organizes awareness programme on Income Tax Act

AMRITSAR, Feb 4: Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) organised an outreach and awareness programme on the provisions relating to Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) and Tax Collected at Source (TCS) under the Income Tax Act, 2025, with a focus on capacity building of DDOs of colleges of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot district. The programme was held at the Senate Hall under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh and with the support of the Dr. Saroj Arora, Dean, College Development Council.
Dean Academic Affairs Dr. H.S. Saini, Registrar Dr. K.S. Chahal, officials associated with income tax matters, and Drawing and Disbursing Officers from nearly 86 affiliated colleges of the University from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts participated in the programme.
The seminar was conducted by officials from the Income Tax Department, Government of India. Mr. Vikas Kumar, Income Tax Officer (TDS), Amritsar, apprised about TDS/TCS process and Mr. Bhupinder Singh, IRS, Joint Commissioner, Income Tax Department (TDS), Ludhiana, talked about the New Income Tax Act - 2025 and its provisions served as the resource persons.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the latest amendments introduced in the Income Tax Act, 2025, their implementation, and the legal implications arising from non-compliance. Special emphasis was laid on ensuring timely tax deduction and adherence to statutory timelines by Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs).
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh underscored the importance of staying updated with the latest tax reforms. He said that proper compliance with TDS and TCS provisions not only helps avoid legal complications but also strengthens transparency and efficiency in administration. Appreciating the initiative of the Income Tax Department, he reiterated that GNDU remains committed to legal compliance and good governance. He expressed hope that the participants would effectively implement the knowledge gained during the seminar in their respective institutions.
