Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 4: Jammu Police, South Zone, achieved a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown against the drug menace with the busting of a significant narcotics network and recovery of a commercial quantity of heroin along with ?21 lakh identified as proceeds of crime. Given the seriousness and magnitude of the offence, the investigation is being directly supervised by the SSP Jammu and SP South Jammu to ensure a thorough, professional, and legally sound investigation, including comprehensive examination of forward and backward linkages of the drug network. Further recoveries of narcotic substances and proceeds of crime are expected during the course of investigation.
The operation was successfully executed by the police team of Police Station Bahu Fort headed by the SHO, PS Bahu Fort who received reliable information regarding the circulation of a video on social media platforms showing some youth injecting narcotic/psychotropic substances in the Rajeev Nagar area, a locality known to be vulnerable to drug-related activities.
Acting swiftly and decisively on the input, FIR No. 265/2025 under Sections 8/21/27 of the NDPS Act was registered and investigation was immediately set into motion.
During the course of investigation, witnesses were examined and sustained, focused efforts were made by the investigating team. On the basis of disclosures and evidence collected, one accused namely Pal Singh S/o Roshan Lal R/o Rajeev Nagar, Jammu was arrested. On his disclosure, 265 grams of heroin-like narcotic substance was recovered strictly in accordance with the provisions of law. The recovered contraband falls under commercial quantity as defined under the NDPS Act.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had amassed substantial money through the sale of narcotic substances. Acting on credible evidence and material on record, a search of the residential house of Netar Sodhi S/o Ashok Kumar R/o Malhotra Street, Lakhdatta Bazar, Jammu was conducted after obtaining a search warrant from the Hon'ble Court. During the search, a cash amount of ?7,90,200 was recovered.
Upon further questioning and verification, it came to light that the accused Pal Singh and his son Arun Singh had entered into an agreement to purchase a shop situated at Rajeev Nagar, Jammu, from Netar Sodhi. Subsequently, Netar Sodhi also produced an additional cash amount of ?13,09,800, which he had earlier received from the accused as advance payment. Thus, a total cash amount of ?21,00,000 was recovered during the investigation.
It was further revealed that an agreement to sell had been executed for a total amount of ?41 lakh, against which ?21 lakh had already been paid as advance. The recovered cash amount of ?21 lakh is being treated as proceeds of crime under the NDPS Act.
Further investigation is in progress to trace the complete financial trail, identify the source of supply, establish forward and backward linkages, and ascertain the involvement of other persons connected with the narcotics network.
Jammu Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and remains committed to eliminating the drug menace from society. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police by sharing information related to drug trafficking and abuse.
