Samba, Feb 10: Government Degree College Samba marked Internet Safety Day under the guidance of the revered Principal, Prof (Dr.) Nirlape Kour with the objective of creating awareness among students about cyber safety. The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. Uttish Bavoriya. Dr. Neha Jain and Dr. Pankaj Verma from the Department of Computer Applications were the resource persons for the event. Dr. Neha Jain highlighted common cyber threats such as phishing, identity theft, fake links, malicious apps, and social engineering tactics used by cyber criminals to exploit unsuspecting users. Emphasis was laid on protecting personal data, using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and being cautious while sharing information on social media platforms. Dr. Pankaj Verma informed the audience about online fraud reporting procedures, including the importance of promptly reporting cyber crimes through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (www.cybercrime.gov.in) and helpline numbers. Real-life examples were discussed to help students understand how cyber frauds occur and how timely reporting can prevent further damage. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, Dr. Nirlape Kour stressed that internet safety is a shared responsibility and awareness is the first step towards prevention. She encouraged students to act as cyber safety ambassadors by spreading awareness among peers, family, and the community. The programme concluded with an interactive session where students raised queries related to cyber laws, safe online practices, and means of maintaining a healthy digital footprint. The observance of Internet Safety Day at GDC Samba reinforced the institution’s commitment to fostering a safe, informed, and digitally responsible society.
