Agra, Feb 12: Celebrated theatre director and cultural visionary Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, the star attraction of the event, presided over the grand valedictory function of the Braj Dhara Sahitya Utsav in Agra, where he made a compelling call for deeper youth engagement through literature and theatre arts. This unique literature festival was organised by Dhara Chetna Foundation, Agra and Dr. Vijay Kishore Bansal. Addressing a packed audience of eminent writers, scholars, students, and art enthusiasts, Thakur underscored that literature and theatre are not merely artistic pursuits but powerful catalysts for social transformation. He stressed the urgent need to create inclusive cultural platforms that encourage young minds to participate actively in creative expression and intellectual dialogue. “Literature and theatre must speak the language of today’s youth while remaining rooted in our civilisational ethos,” Thakur said. “In a rapidly globalising world, preserving our cultural identity depends on ensuring that young people become active creators rather than passive spectators.” Drawing upon his extensive international experience, Thakur observed that many countries across Europe and Asia have successfully integrated performing arts into mainstream education to foster critical thinking, empathy, discipline, and leadership skills. He noted that India, with its profound literary and theatrical heritage, possesses immense potential to lead a global cultural renaissance powered by its youth. Highlighting his broader vision, Thakur advocated for sustained cross-cultural collaborations that connect Indian literature and theatre with global artistic communities. Such exchanges, he said, would not only widen creative horizons but also strengthen India’s cultural footprint worldwide. |
