MLA Ajaz jan raises public issues in Assembly
2/13/2026 11:23:08 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 13: During the ongoing Budget Session of the Assembly, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, MLA Poonch, raised important public issues while speaking on the Grants related to the Jal Shakti, Forest, and Pollution Control Departments.
Highlighting the drinking water crisis in Poonch and other border areas, Jan stated that several lift water supply schemes are not functioning effectively on the ground. He pointed out that motors installed under various schemes often operate only briefly before developing faults, resulting in repeated repair costs and prolonged water shortages. He further observed that hand pumps installed in rural areas are insufficient and emphasized that selection of locations must be transparent, fair, and strictly based on local demand so that genuine beneficiaries are not deprived.
Speaking on forest-related matters, Jan stressed that funds should be utilized as per sanctioned plans and in accordance with ground requirements. He called for proper monitoring and accountability to prevent any misuse of resources and to ensure benefits reach local communities.
In this context, Jan appreciated the people-friendly initiative taken earlier by Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, who, during his tenure as Minister for Forest, had ordered that fallen and dry trees in the Pir Panjal region be provided to local residents. Jan said such welfare-oriented policies directly support poor and rural families and should be strengthened further.
Raising environmental concerns, Jan also referred to the functioning of stone crushers and hot mix plants in Jammu province. He urged authorities to ensure that all units operate strictly under prescribed environmental guidelines and National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms. He clarified that he does not seek closure of lawful businesses but demanded designated zones and strict compliance to protect public health and ecological balance.
Jan emphasized the need for transparent governance, fair implementation of schemes, and strong environmental oversight for sustainable development.
