GCW Udhampur hosts Seminar-cum-Skill Workshop on "Computing Essentials: Tools, Hardware & Connectivity"

UDHAMPUR, Feb 14: The Department of Computer Applications, under the aegis of IQAC, Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur successfully organized a Seminar-cum-Skill Workshop with hands-on training on the theme "Computing Essentials: Tools, Hardware & Connectivity" i the college campus here today.
The programme was conducted under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Pathania and the headship of Dr. Preeti Dubey.
The workshop was organized in connection with World Computer Day, observed on 15th February, with the objective of fostering digital awareness, technical proficiency, and responsible use of computing technologies among students.
The event was formally inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Mr. Anish Sharma, District Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre (NIC), Udhampur, in the presence of Convener IQAC Dr. Monica Gupta and other senior faculty members.
In her welcome address, Dr. Preeti Dubey emphasized the importance of practical exposure and skill-based learning in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape. She highlighted the need to equip students with hands-on knowledge in core computing areas to enhance both competence and career readiness.
Delivering the expert talk, Mr. Anish Sharma elaborated on various types of computer networks, their practical applications, and emerging trends in digital connectivity. He also encouraged students to actively participate in national initiatives by registering on the MyGov portal to engage in quizzes, competitions, and innovation-driven activities offering recognition and growth opportunities.
Students of Semester VI-Luxmi Devi, Sonia Sharma, Savita, Gitanjali Verma, Pratibha Sharma, Prinka Sharma, Rekha, Saneha Sharma, and Priteka Sharma - actively participated in the event and delivered interactive demonstrations across key technical domains PC Assembly and Installation Group: Students demonstrated key hardware components, including motherboard, RAM, processor, hard disk, SMPS, and peripherals. They explained the step-by-step assembly process and highlighted essential safety precautions during installation. Computer Networks Group.
