A calendar reflects culture, values and collective journey: Balbir
2/16/2026 10:42:27 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 16: Former Vice Chairman and social activist Balbir Ram Rattan said that a calendar is far more than a simple chart of days and months. It is a reflection of culture, values and society's collective journey.
He shared these views while receiving a bird conservation calendar prepared by Guldev Raj, Head of The Himalayan Avion. The calendar features rare and captivating photographs of a wide variety of birds, particularly migratory species that travel from distant regions to seasonal habitats such as Gharana Wetland, Surinsar, Mansar, Sanasar and Tawi Island, enriching the region's biodiversity.
Balbir observed that while calendars help people track dates and engagements, their deeper value lies in their ability to inspire, educate and connect communities. A thoughtfully designed calendar, he said, can communicate powerful ideas and nurture awareness throughout the year.
He emphasized that thematic calendars dedicated to cultural heritage, national events, social awareness campaigns, environmental protection or tributes to eminent personalities play a significant role in shaping public consciousness. Such calendars serve as constant reminders of important historical events, shared traditions and the sacrifices of heroes.
Referring to the bird conservation calendar, Balbir said the compilation of diverse species would attract attention and spark curiosity, especially among the younger generation. Initiatives like these, he added, can encourage interest in wildlife protection and preservation of natural ecosystems.
He further noted that thematic calendars can serve as subtle yet effective educational tools by including informative notes, interesting facts and significant dates. Each month can convey a message and each date can carry a lesson, gradually strengthening awareness over the year.
Balbir also highlighted the importance of tribute calendars dedicated to social reformers, spiritual leaders, scientists and artists, saying they help preserve legacies and inspire future generations.
He further said that a yearly calendar should be seen not merely as a planning tool but as a meaningful companion that records time, preserves memories, inspires responsibility and uplifts society throughout the year.
