Early Times Report DODA, Feb 17: In continuation to its initiatives to promote youth engagement, sports culture, and community bonding, Doda Police organised a grand Wrestling Competition (Dangal) at Government Degree College (GDC) Doda under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025-26. The event was graced by SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta, JKPS, as the Chief Guest, along with Nodal Officer CAP, Mohd Aslam, ASP Headquarters Doda, senior police officers, officials, and members of the civil Society. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from local as well as outside wrestlers and drew a large gathering of spectators from across the district and neighbouring areas particularly the youth. A total of 23 bouts were conducted during the competition, including initial bouts, small bouts, special bouts, semi-finals, and the grand finale, with attractive cash prizes awarded to winners and runners-up at each stage, as detailed below: Semi-Final Bouts - 02*. (Ist Semi Final) Surjeet (Reasi) vs Harnam (Jammu), (2nd Semi Final) Nadeem (Doda) vs Aqib (Billawar), In Ist Semi final Surjeet (Reasi) won the wrestling and awarded with Cash prize Rs 15,000/- and in 2nd Semi Final Nadeem (Doda) won the wrestling and cash prize Rs 15,000/- were also given to him. Runner-up of the semi final were also awarded ?10,000 each. In Grand Finale Bout - 01:, Nissar (Doda) vs Bablu (Udhampur), Winner: Cash prize Rs 30,000, Runner-up: Cash prize Rs 20,000, *Nissar (Doda) won the wrestling and awarded with Cash prize Rs 30,000/- Runner-up: Bablu (Udhampur) was awarded with Cash prize Rs 20,000/-. The event was organized in a highly disciplined and sportsmanlike environment. The initiative aimed at promoting traditional sports, healthy competition, physical fitness, and positive youth engagement, while strengthening police-public relations. While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mehta said that these kinds of sports events provide platform to the young players to display their talent and encourage them to participate in bigger competitions at state and national level. He also urged that the parents must encourage their children to participate in sports activities so that the negative cults in the society do not impact them. The participants and spectators lauded Doda Police for organising such a vibrant and culturally rich sporting event and expressed gratitude for encouraging local talent and preserving the traditional sport of wrestling. |
