JAMMU, Feb 18: The Centre for Essential Skills at the Indian Institute of Technology Jammu inaugurated Batch 5 of the HVAC Operations & Maintenance Training Program, reaffirming the Institute's continued commitment to industry-aligned skill development and regional capacity building.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev, Dean - Outreach and Skill Development; Dr. Rajkumar Velu, Associate Dean - Skill Development and Centre for Essential Skills; Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan, Dean - Administration; Lt Cdr Mannu Virk (Retd.), Security Officer; and Dr. Satya Sekar Bhogilla, Faculty, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Program Coordinator.
The event also witnessed the participation of industry representatives Mr. Ujjawal Bhimwal, General Manager, Hotel Taj Vivanta City Centre, and Mr. Munish Kapoor, HR Manager. Mr. Naresh Singh, Principal, Government ITI College Samba, was also present on the occasion.
The HVAC Operations & Maintenance Training Program is a structured, hands-on skilling initiative designed for ITI students, diploma holders, technicians, and early-career professionals in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) sector. Conducted using IIT Jammu's advanced infrastructure and Cooling Innovation Labs, the program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry-ready technical expertise.
Delivering the Welcome Address, Dr. Rajkumar Velu emphasized the growing demand for structured skill development initiatives to meet evolving industry requirements in the HVAC sector. He highlighted the Centre's vision of building a strong ecosystem that integrates academic rigor with practical industry exposure.
Prof. Meenakshi Rajeev underscored IIT Jammu's strategic focus on outreach programs that empower youth through specialized, market-aligned training. She reiterated the Institute's commitment to expanding such initiatives to enhance regional and national capacity building.
Speaking on behalf of the industry, Mr. Ujjawal Bhimwal highlighted the critical role of trained HVAC professionals in hospitality and infrastructure sectors. He appreciated the collaboration between IIT Jammu and industry partners, noting that such partnerships are essential for workforce preparedness and operational excellence.
Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan emphasized the importance of institutional support for skill-based programs that strengthen technical proficiency alongside professional discipline. Lt Cdr Mannu Virk briefed the participants on campus safety and security protocols to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment during the training period.
Over its previous four batches, the program has significantly enhanced participants' technical competence, practical exposure, and employability prospects. The launch of Batch 5 marks another milestone in IIT Jammu's sustained efforts to foster meaningful industry-academia collaboration and workforce readiness.
The Office of the Centre for Essential Skills placed on record its sincere gratitude to Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, for his continuous encouragement and visionary leadership in promoting skill development initiatives that blend academic excellence with industry relevance and social impact.
The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Satya Sekar Bhogilla, who expressed appreciation to the dignitaries, industry representatives, faculty members, and participants for their support and engagement.
With Batch 5 now underway, the Centre for Essential Skills at IIT Jammu continues to play a pivotal role in advancing practical, industry-oriented education in the HVAC domain. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph, marking the beginning of an enriching four-day learning journey for the participants.
