| Govt enhances gratuity limit to Rs 25 Lakh after DA hike | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 18: In a major relief for government employees, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has enhanced the maximum limit of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for staff drawing regular pay under the 7th Pay Commission. The revised ceiling has come into effect from January 1, 2024, following the increase of Dearness Allowance (DA) to 50 per cent of basic pay. According to a circular issued by the Principal Secretary, Finance, the gratuity ceiling will automatically rise by 25 per cent whenever the Dearness Allowance increases by 50 per cent of the basic pay. The circular refers to Government Order No. 178-F of 2024 dated May 21, 2024, which sanctioned Dearness Allowance at the revised rate of 50 per cent of basic pay with effect from January 1, 2024, for employees covered under the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. It further stated that the Finance Department had received several references seeking clarification on the enhancement of the maximum limit of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity after the DA touched the 50 per cent mark. "Upon examination of the matter, it is hereby clarified that, subject to the conditions laid down under the relevant rules governing the grant of Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity, the maximum limit shall be deemed to have been enhanced by 25 per cent - from the existing ceiling of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh - with effect from January 1, 2024, the date on which Dearness Allowance reached 50 per cent of the basic pay," the circular states. |
