Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 18: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, today undertook an extensive inspection of Ward Nos. 49 and 74, covering Narwal, Bathindi, Sunjwan, Chowadi and adjoining areas, to review sanitation standards and take action against illegal encroachments. During the tour, the Commissioner carried out a detailed assessment of cleanliness in main roads, inner lanes, drains and public spaces. He reviewed the progress of ongoing developmental works and examined the availability and upkeep of civic amenities in the areas visited.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining high hygiene standards, Dr. Yadav directed concerned officials to ensure regular lifting of garbage, strict segregation of waste at source, and timely desilting and cleaning of drains to prevent waterlogging and related health hazards. He particularly stressed the urgent cleaning of deep drains and nallahs, especially those that witness heavy flow during the rainy season, and instructed that preventive measures be undertaken well in advance to avoid inconvenience to residents.
As part of the enforcement drive conducted during the inspection, illegal encroachments on roads and footpaths were removed, and unauthorized roadside stalls were cleared to restore public spaces and ensure smooth pedestrian and vehicular movement. Encroachments on government land in the Sunjwan area were also dismantled on the spot. The Commissioner directed enforcement teams to maintain strict vigilance and initiate firm action against repeat violators to ensure long-term compliance.
Addressing officers and field staff, Dr. Yadav emphasized improved inter-departmental coordination, enhanced ward-level monitoring, and consistent implementation of sanitation measures. He underscored that cleanliness drives must be treated as a continuous civic responsibility rather than limited to occasional campaigns.
The Commissioner also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the Corporation by adopting responsible waste disposal practices and refraining from encroachments. He reiterated the Corporation's unwavering commitment to making Jammu city clean, organized and citizen-friendly.
Among others, Joint Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) Abdul Sattar, Deputy Commissioner (South) Chand Singh, Health Officer Dr. Vinod Sharma, Executive Engineer Yasir Bashir Kichloo, Chief Transport Officer Balkar Angurana, and other senior officials of the Corporation accompanied the Commissioner during the drive..
