Mobile, drugs and stress, three strikes at childhood “Who is responsible for our children’s danger?
2/20/2026 10:34:55 PM
Dr. Vijay Garg

Today’s childhood is three unseen war-fighting—mobile addiction, the increasing prevalence of drugs and the untimely burden of stress. What was once a childhood of toys, playgrounds and open-mouthed laughter is shrinking today under the pressure of screen lights, social media competition and expectations. The question is, if our children are in danger who is responsible?
Mobile: From convenience to addiction
Mobile phones have become an integral part of modern life. It is a useful tool for education, information and communication. But when that same tool ends up in the hands of children without control, it becomes more a means to addiction than entertainment. Playing games for hours, comparing on social media, watching screens late at night—all have bad effects on children’s sleep, eyes, mental health and concentration. Real friendships are replaced by virtual relationships. As a result the child gradually becomes cut off from family and society.
Intoxication: From curiosity to destruction
The teenage years are a time of curiosity and experimentation. Children may be drawn to tobacco, alcohol or other drugs if they are not given the right guidance at this time. Many times it starts with “just one time”, which becomes a habit going forward. Addiction not only weakens the body, but also affects confidence, character and future. It tears families apart and hollows out society.
Stress: A burden from childhood onwards
Today’s kids are living under the pressures of studying, competition and expectations. Points and ranks have become his identity. The high expectations of parents and society sometimes put unbearable pressure on children. Stress can cause children to develop irritability, depression, lack of self-confidence and sometimes even suicidal thoughts. Childhood, which should be a time of ease and joy, is causing anxiety and fear.
Who is responsible?
Family: Silencing children with a mobile phone is an easy solution, but it has far-reaching ramifications. If parents themselves are immersed in screens, children will learn the same. Lack of communication and time can lead children in the wrong directions.
Society and the Friends: The influence of peers is extremely powerful. If the environment is not healthy, a child may be affected early.
Education system: Education based only on marks increases competition among children, but the education of life skills, ethics and mental balance is left behind.
Technical and entertainment industry: Apps and games are designed to make users spend more screen time. Adequate control is required, taking into account the sensitivity of children.
Direction of the solution
Digital discipline in the home fixed—screen time limited ho.
Open communication and quality time with the children.
Sports, music, books and creative activities should be promoted.
schools to have mental health education and counseling.
Anti-drug awareness and strict social messages should be given.
Conclusion
Childhood is the foundation of a nation. If this foundation is weakened, the future will falter as well. Mobiles, drugs and stress—All three together are having a profound effect on children’s minds and brains.
The only responsible thing is none—family, society, education system and all of us. If we are mindful in time, childhood may have the opportunity to smile again.
Give children not just resources, but time, culture and sensibility—That way their future will be secured.
