Chandigarh, Feb 20: The NSS Units of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with Citizens Awareness Group, organised an interactive consumer awareness session titled ‘Think Before You Click’ under the aegis of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The session focused on promoting cyber hygiene, digital vigilance, and consumer awareness among students. The session featured Shri Surinder Verma, Chairman, Citizens Awareness Group, and Ms Mohinder Kaur Kataria, Motivational Speaker and General Secretary of the organisation, who underscored the importance of consumer rights, public awareness, and responsible digital conduct. Mr Deepak Singh, DSP, Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission, addressed the gathering on cyber safety from a law enforcement and human rights perspective. He sensitised students about emerging cybercrimes such as phishing, sextortion, identity theft, and online fraud, while also outlining legal remedies and reporting mechanisms available to victims. Adding industry perspective, Mr Dev Chauhan, Compliance Manager (Punjab State), Bharti Airtel, discussed safe telecom practices and compliance measures, while Mr Sanjiv Vohra, BGM, Reliance Jio, highlighted the role of telecom service providers in strengthening digital security. Representatives from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Mr Ashish and Mr Pankaj Khanna, also emphasised the importance of secure and reliable connectivity in today’s digital landscape. Students were introduced to the TRAI DND application as a practical tool to manage unwanted communications and enhance consumer protection in the telecom sector. On the occasion, Citizens Awareness Group felicitated Officiating Principal Ms Neena Sharma and NSS Programme Officer Dr Minakshi Rana in recognition of their exemplary initiatives and unwavering commitment to promoting cyber security awareness. Ms Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the NSS Units and collaborating organisations for organising this impactful session and appreciated their commitment to empowering students for a safe and secure digital future. |
