Bhaderwah, Feb 20: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Bhaderwah successfully conducted a comprehensive awareness drive against drug abuse today, engaging students and staff members in a multi-faceted program aimed at promoting a drug-free society. This drive was carried out under the able guidance of Principal, Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza and convenership of Prof. Mohd Yaseen Sirwal(NSS PO) and Dr Swarn Singh(Convener Red Ribbon Club)
The event kicked off with an enlightening lecture on drug de-addiction, delivered by expert Dr. Aijaz Ahmed Wani, HOD Zoology. The session shed light on the devastating health, social, and economic impacts of substance abuse, shared real-life recovery stories, and outlined practical strategies for prevention and rehabilitation. Attendees gained valuable insights into recognizing early signs of addiction and accessing local support services. This was followed by a vibrant poster competition, where NSS volunteers and students showcased creative artwork highlighting the theme “Say No to Drugs – Yes to Life.” Entries featured powerful slogans, illustrations of healthy lifestyles, and calls to action, judged by a panel of faculty members. Top performers received certificates and prizes, fostering artistic expression as a tool for advocacy. Among them Sania Shan bagged first position followed by Priya Kotwal & Rohan Sadaf jointly secured second position, while Tanish & Simran Charak jointly bagged third positions respectively.
The program culminated in a spirited anti-drug rally, with participants marching through key streets of Bhaderwah, chanting slogans like “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and “Drugs Free Youth for Bright Future.” Banners, placards, and pamphlets were distributed to raise public awareness and pledge commitment to a healthier community.
NSS Programme Officer, emphasized, “Initiatives like these empower our youth to lead by example. The NSS Unit remains dedicated in eradicating drug menace through education, creativity, and collective action.”
