Carmel Convent School Jammu celebrates World Mother Language Day

JAMMU, Feb 20: The role of women in today's society is crucial in building strong families and a progressive nation. The school actively works to empower girls and promote gender equality through value-based education and awareness programmes. It regularly organizes workshops, special assemblies, and themed events to highlight the important role of women in society and to address social evils such as child marriage and discrimination.
Keeping this in mind ,Carmel Convent School Jammu celebrated World Mother Language Day on 20th February 2026 with great zeal and enthusiasm under the theme "Global Guidance on Multilingual Education". The Special Guests for the occasion were Akshita Sharma ( JKAS) and Sister Christy (Superior Educationist), in the esteemed presence of School Principal Sister Maria Suzette AC.along with the dedicated members of the teaching staff. The celebration commenced with a graceful Prayer Dance followed by a solemn Prayer seeking harmony and unity among diverse cultures and languages. A meaningful speech highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing that multilingual education strengthens cognitive development, promotes inclusivity, and preserves cultural heritage. Students also presented biographies of eminent poets who contributed immensely to the enrichment of their mother tongues. The school choir rendered a melodious song celebrating unity in diversity, followed by a captivating Qawwali performance symbolizing communal harmony.
Under the theme of Cultural Diversity ( Clothing, and Language), Red House (Dogri), Blue House (Urdu/Kashmiri), Green House (Hindi), and Yellow House (Punjabi) beautifully showcased their respective traditions through authentic attire, traditional greetings, and musical instruments. The presentations were appreciated for cultural accuracy, creativity, and vibrant layout. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks followed by the patriotic rendition of Vande Mataram, leaving everyone inspired to value and preserve their mother languages.
