Grand opening of 21st Athletic Meet-cum-Sports Fest 2026 at SBS State University held

JAMMU, Feb 20: Today, on the eve of the 21st Annual Athletic Meet-cum-Sports Fest 2026 of Sardar Beant Singh State University, the campus came alive with enthusiasm, energy, and the spirit of sportsmanship. The grand event was organized under the visionary leadership and able guidance of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Dr. S.K. Misra, marking the beginning of a vibrant celebration of athletic excellence and student participation.
The Athletic Meet was formally inaugurated by former Olympian and renowned Indian hockey player Surinder Singh Sodhi. Declaring the meet open, he shared inspiring experiences from his illustrious sporting journey and motivated students to pursue excellence with dedication, discipline, and perseverance. His address encouraged young athletes to remain focused, work hard, and uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship both on and off the field. In his address, Vice Chancellor Dr. S.K. Misra emphasized the importance of balancing academics with sports and co-curricular activities for holistic personality development. He encouraged students to actively participate in sports of their interest and give their hundred percent effort in every field of life. Delivering a strong social message, he urged students to stay away from drugs and other harmful influences, highlighting that a healthy lifestyle and disciplined approach are essential for success.
The event commenced with the rendition of Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, creating a patriotic and inspiring atmosphere for the sports festivities ahead.
Registrar Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Gurpadam Singh, Sh. Sukwinder Bir Singh, Madam Jaspreet Kaur, Mr. Pritpal Singh (DPE), along with all Deans, Heads of Departments, department in-charges, faculty members, and staff were present on the occasion, making it a memorable and grand beginning to the annual sports celebrations.
