2/25/2026 10:44:38 PM
Early Times Report
CHANDIGARH, Feb 25: Punjab Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a cross-border drug and weapons smuggling cartel with the arrest of a person.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, recovered 2.102 kg of heroin, 7 pistols including one Glock 9mm, four pistols of .30 bore, and two pistols of 9mm.
The SSOC also seized 10 live cartridges and impounded a motorcycle, which was being used for smuggling the contraband. The accused has been identified as Gurnam Singh alias Gama, a resident of Bhange Wala (Jhuge Kishore Singh Wala) in Ferozepur. A preliminary investigation revealed that the drone-dropped consignment of heroin and weapons was sourced from Pakistan-based smugglers for executing criminal activities in the state.
Further investigations are underway to unravel forward and backward linkages, he said.
Sharing operational details, Assistant Inspector General, SSOC Fazilka, Naresh Kumar Dogra said, based on a tip-off, teams from SSOC Fazilka launched a special operation in the area of Jalalabad and arrested the accused from near Baghe Ke Uttar village in Fazilka, when he was riding his motorcycle.
During the search, 2.1 kg of heroin and three pistols were recovered from his possession, he said. The officer added that four pistols were recovered from the location pinpointed by the accused.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at Fazilka SSOC police station, he said.
