Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 25: The Institute Innovation Council (IIC) of the Central University of Jammu successfully concluded the workshop on Patent and copyright filing procedures in India, organized at the SDCSS (ISRO Building), Second floor, Seminar hall in the premises of the university campus.
On the day, the Workshop witnessed active participation of 87 Research scholars, with individuals presenting their innovative ideas and queries before the IP and Copyright Experts. The participants demonstrated keen interest in understanding the legal and procedural frameworks governing patents and copyrights, while exploring how their domain-specific research could be translated into protected intellectual assets. Such numbers suggested future accommodations to be held at a larger hall.
The workshop was held under the patronage of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu. It was supervised by Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, President, Institute Innovation Council, while Dr. Vinita Sharma, Convenor, IIC, along with Prof. Pawan Kumar, Associate Dean, Research, coordinated the smooth-sailing of the event and ensured effective interaction between experts and participants.. The organizing team is supported by IIC staff member Mr. Naveen Kumar and student volunteers, facilitating seamless execution of the workshop.
The first session was delivered by Sangeeta Nagar, Senior Scientist, Patent & Design at M/s S.S. Rana & Co., formerly a Scientist-F with Patent Facilitating Centre (PFC) at TIFAC, and winner of Nari Shakti Puraskar from the Hon'ble President of India. Starting from the basics and history of patents to correlating them with real-world examples and data helped students visualize their journey of patent filing. She also went into the details of patentability criteria on what can be patented and what cannot. She concluded her session by highlighting key departments, software, and funding schemes, and government policies, while enlightening all about future training session prospects on startups and MSMEs.
The second session, conducted by Pooja Thakur, Associate Partner, Copyright and Trademark at M/s S.S. Rana & Co., continued the inspiring journey delving into copyright and trademark. Differentiating among all three terminologies and their applications while also touching upon AI tools, fair use and fair dealing examples, starting from the basics.
