| Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, while chairing a security review meeting in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district directed the officers to dismantle the overall separatist and terror ecosystem and use modern tactics to neutralize Pakistani terrorists. The DGP also called for maintaining seamless coordination among the security agencies to ensure that the terror is crushed. Counter-terrorism today is a multi-dimensional effort involving police, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and civil administration working in tandem. Proactive role played by Jammu and Kashmir Police against the terrorists and their supporters have dealt a serve blow to Pakistan sponsored terrorism. As on date the recruitment of local youth in the terror outfits is zero, a development that would have been unimaginable a few years ago. This shift indicates that the narrative which once misled sections of youth is losing its resonance. Sustained outreach, community engagement, and firm action against terror sympathisers have together shrunk the space available for radicalisation. Equally significant is the marginalisation of separatist elements who once used to run a parallel system. With their networks disrupted and financial channels choked, they have largely faded from relevance. Separatists have lost their addresses. This signals the weakening of an ideological infrastructure that long sustained violence. However, complacency would be premature. Terror outfits, backed by handlers across the border, continue to attempt infiltration and sporadic attacks aimed at disturbing peace and spreading fear. Modern tactics, as highlighted by the DGP, must therefore remain at the heart of counter-terror strategy. Technology-driven surveillance, data analytics, cyber monitoring, and precision operations have become indispensable tools. The nature of terrorism is evolving, and so must the response. Hybrid terrorists, encrypted communication platforms, and cross-border drone deliveries of arms demand constant innovation and adaptability. At the same time, security measures must be complemented by continued efforts to win public trust. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured decades of turmoil. Their cooperation has been instrumental in isolating terrorist elements. Strengthening this bond between citizens and law enforcement agencies will ensure that any attempt to revive terrorism finds no social support |
