Early Times Report VIJAYPUR, Feb 26: Government Degree College Vijaypur organized an insightful lecture on the theme Youth Parliament "50 Years of Emergency" to reflect upon one of the most significant periods in India's democratic history. The lecture was delivered by Lecturer Indu Bala ( Department of Political Sciences), who provided a comprehensive overview of the historical context, constitutional implications, and long-term impact of the Emergency declared in 1975. The session highlighted the importance of safeguarding democratic values, constitutional rights, and civil liberties. Prof. Indu emphasized the lessons learned from the Emergency period and its relevance for contemporary Indian democracy. The programme was conducted under the able guidance and leadership of Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht, who encouraged students to critically engage with India's political history and develop a deeper understanding of democratic institutions. Students and faculty members actively participated in the interactive session, raising thoughtful questions and sharing perspectives on the Emergency's impact on governance, media freedom, and civil rights. A jury panel evaluated the participating students on their articulation, understanding of the theme, confidence, and parliamentary aptitude. After careful assessment, four students were selected to represent the college at the District-Level Viksit Youth Parliament scheduled to be held on 28th February 2026 at SSPND GDC Samba. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the Department of Political Science for organizing the academic event successfully. |
