Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, Feb 28: The Department of Food Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women organised MCM Ideathon 2026 under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch, with sponsorship from the Department of Science and Technology-Renewable Energy (DST-RE), Chandigarh Administration. The event provided a vibrant platform to nurture creativity, scientific temperament, and entrepreneurial vision among students. The programme featured expert sessions by distinguished resource persons. Prof. Rajat Sandhir, Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, delivered an engaging talk on 'Turn-up Skills to Startup', encouraging students to translate academic knowledge into entrepreneurial ventures. Dr. Rahul Tirpude, Deputy Director, Indian Institute of Packaging, conducted an insightful session on 'Latest Innovations in Food Packaging', highlighting emerging trends and sustainable packaging technologies. The Ideathon brought together young innovators who presented novel ideas centred on food innovation, sustainability, by-product utilisation, and food safety solutions. Their projects reflected a strong commitment to addressing contemporary challenges through scientific and socially relevant approaches. Students presented innovative concepts such as food adulteration detection kits and by-product utilisation for the development of novel food products, demonstrating scientific acumen aligned with societal needs. The Ideathon successfully fostered research aptitude, sustainability consciousness, and startup orientation among young women scholars. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the initiative, stating that such platforms empower students to think innovatively, develop problem-solving skills, and evolve into future-ready entrepreneurs capable of contributing meaningfully to society and the nation. |
