Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: In a vibrant and imaginative celebration of the festival of colours, Natrang presented a unique cultural showcase highlighting the rich and diverse traditions of Jammu & Kashmir. Moving beyond conventional festivities, Natrang chose to celebrate Holi by unveiling the many "cultural colours" of the region through an enthralling presentation of traditional dances representing its varied ethnic communities.
This rare and innovative concept transformed the spirit of Holi into a grand cultural confluence. Instead of colours in their physical form, the audience witnessed the symbolic hues of heritage, expressed through rhythm, music, costumes, and traditional motifs. The event beautifully reflected the idea that the true vibrancy of Jammu & Kashmir lies in its pluralistic identity and centuries old traditions.
Elaborating on this distinctive celebration, Natrang's founder, Balwant Thakur, a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri, remarked that nowhere else in the world can one find such an extraordinary spectrum of cultural diversity coexisting in harmony. He emphasized that Holi, a festival symbolizing joy and togetherness, provided the perfect occasion to celebrate the region's composite cultural heritage.
"As promoters and preservers of culture, we felt it was important to highlight the unique identity of Jammu & Kashmir through its traditional art forms. Each community carries its own shade of expression, and together they form a magnificent cultural rainbow," he said.
The film presentation featured an exquisite range of dance forms representing Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Pahadi, and Bhadarwahi traditions. Each performance was a visual and auditory delight, characterized by authentic costumes, indigenous musical instruments, and distinctive rhythmic patterns. The Kashmiri performances radiated grace and poetic elegance, while Dogri dances reflected spirited energy and folk vibrancy. The Gojri and Pahadi segments brought alive the rustic charm of the hills, and the Bhadarwahi presentation showcased rare traditional expressions seldom witnessed on mainstream platforms.
The stage came alive as artists seamlessly transitioned from one cultural expression to another, creating a bouquet of diverse traditions woven together in artistic harmony. The audience experienced not merely a dance recital but a powerful reminder of the region's shared cultural ethos.
